Summer vacation

Summer is already here. I have been too busy with work the past few months and I haven’t really taken any long breaks so far. The holy week is the first long break after Christmas and I have taken advantage of it.  The pictures above were taken with my samsung galaxy note 2 during the Christmas vacation last year. We went home to Cagayan for Christmas and visited my dad’s hometown. It was a respite from all the pollution in Manila. Flowers, trees and fresh air! Ah, the provincial life.

I experience this simple, refreshing just once in a while, only when there are long holidays at work. There used to be so much more of these with the past president but PNoy is intent on implementing his ‘tuwid na daan” program and refuses to move around the holidays to create long weekends, which we, the middle working class, can use to go home to our respective provinces.

Anyway, so I went home this Holy week to Nueva Ecija, my mom’s hometown.  It was, as is always the case, a gastronomic fest.  My parents have their own little farm. Not fancy.  Not the haciendero type of thing but they have more than enough livestock, fruits and vegetables for their daily consumption.  Everything is fresh. The vegetables, the eggs, the chicken, the fruits!

For Good Friday, since meat is not allowed, we had to catch fish from the fish pond. But aside from the fish, there were tiny freshwater shrimps too!  Look at that catch!

So we had grilled fish and shrimp for lunch and sinigang for dinner! Yumyumyum! This gastronomic feast goes on for two more days! I have already gained a pound or two and will perhaps gain some more. Haha.. I better go back to the gym to dance all these calories off when I get back to Manila!

4pics 1 word

_ _ _ _ _ _ _

There’s this addicting popular game right now called 4pics 1word.  The app shows 4 pics depicting one word.  I thought of using it as a way of introducing this post… =) So, guess which word the 4 pics above represent.

This was the dinner I had with my sister and her husband a few days ago at a popular restaurant chain.  We had bread with olive oil and balsalmic vinegar, prosciutto and formaggio, sicilain chicken salad and applewood bacon pizza. Yumyumyum.  The warm bread was lovely, the salad, tasty and the pizza, delicious.  The prosciutto and salami were a bit too salty for my taste, though. But overall our Italian dinner was awesome!

My dessert for tonight! Yummy, yummy chocolate cake with caramel frosting! I wish i had the patience to bake! I also wish I still had my metabolism when I was an adolescent! Back then, I could eat whatever I want without getting fat but these days, a few extra mouthfuls of sweets immediately translates to belly fat! Argh!

Eating by the Waterfall

I wanna go here some time, to Labassin Waterfall Restaurant, San Pablo City, Quezon. Seems like a very nice place to pig out! Their restaurant is by the dam. You eat while your feet are soaked in flowing water. And after you’ve had your gastronomic feast, you can lie down under the waterfall to relax and was your worries away! Ain’t it neat?

Favoritest Junkfood

This is officially my favoritest junk food ever.  I’ve been snacking on it for the entire week! Love, love, love!  Will buy more tomorrow. Yippee! =)

For three days, it was too painful to swallow.  For three days, my heart rate went up whenever I wanted to drink.  For three days, I could barely eat.  For three days, my tonsils were so massive and so painful, swallowing my saliva made me grimace and clench my teeth.

And today that I am pain-free and could theoretically eat what I want, provided that they are available here in the Philippines and that I could afford them and that they can be bought nearby.

I have been munching one junk food after another in between meals the whole day.

nagaraya, terra kettles chips, chicharritos barbecue flavor with sinamak vinegar, marty's plain salted and pringles reduced fat

There something about apples.  I love their fresh, sweet scent.  I don’t know why.  Maybe because years ago we always have apples during Christmas.  Or maybe because our parents always brought home apples from long trips.  There’s just something comforting about them, at least for me.

I don’t like artificial apple scents though.  The air freshener version is just nauseating.  I just want the fresh apple scent.  When you slice one and you hear that crunchy, crisp sound and smell its sweet scent. Ahh, love it. =)
