And so we welcomed the Chinese New Year last February 3.  Kung Hei Fat Choi everyone.  For those of you, who like me, have not done well with their new year’s resolutions on the first month of the year, we have another chance! Hooray! Hahahaha..

I have been meaning to get more fit. I am not overweight or anything, not even close to that, at least according to my computations of my body mass index.  I walk a lot, actually more than the recommended 10,000 steps a day.  And I dance a lot, too, at least an hour 3x weekly.  But I still do wanna improve my endurance and flexibility and build a little more tone.

But so far this year, none of my fitness plans has been coming along according to plan.  Though my walking has remained the same (At least I hope, I have no way of confirming because my pedometer has run out of battery and I still haven’t gotten around to buying new ones…. for more than 6 months now), my dancing on the other hand has been reduced to just once a week, twice at the most.  And to add insult to injury, my caloric intake has more than doubled.  Blame it on emotional eating.  I have had a lot of frustrations lately, which I’d rather not talk about.  So all these (+) input and reduced output will transform this ‘kung hei fat choi’ into a ‘well, hello fat boy” if I don’t do something about it soon.

That’s my January so far and it’s the total opposite of what I have envisioned for the year.  But I have not lost hope.  It is after all just the second month of the year and if you follow the Chinese calendar, the new year has just began!

So begins the year of the Rabbit. This will be the start of an exciting time for you, Rooster, as long as you can hold steady. You’ve made plans; now plan on sticking to them. Don’t let your new resolutions evaporate. Even if it seems like you are embarking on a wild goose chase, remember you were born tenacious for a reason, so keep going. (more…)


I have decided to abstain from twitter for a while.  Since I joined in September of last year, I think I have spent more and more time with it that I barely have time for other things.  I will try for 30 days to not tweet at all.  But cold turkey may not be the best for me because I do recognize the fact that the temptation is massive and I may not be able to resist it.  To remedy that, I am giving myself a maximum of 5 tweets for those 30 days!

Because I am now abstaining from twitter, I need an outlet for the daily roller coaster of emotions that I feel.  I was looking for a widget or something similar where I could “tweet” or share tiny tidbits of information and emotion but couldn’t find one so I am just going to post them here – an assortment of  topics in one single entry.


The Roger’s Cup in Toronto is coming to an end.  Nadal lost to Murray in straight sets in the top half semis while Federer beat Novak in 3 sets in the bottom half.  This means that Federer will be back to the number 2 ranking by Monday.  This is very good news for Federer fans, me included, because the US open is just a few weeks from now and if the rankings hold, then Federer won’t meet Rafa until the finals.  However, with Murray’s aggressiveness intensifying, he could upset either Fed or Rafa (as he did yesterday) halting a Fed-Rafa US open final.

Globe Iphone 3G

I planned on turning my Iphone 3G on for 30 days and see how much my phone bill would be at the end of the month.  I am on the fourth day today but with twitter abstinence, I wouldn’t need the 3G as much anymore.  So I am re-thinking this plan if there is still a need for it.  Actually, come to think of it, this is quite a stupid endeavor. LOL!


I’ve been dancing a lot lately in preparation for a dance competition this September.  The practices are usually a couple of hours long.  The routine is not simple but not that difficult either.  It however involves the core muscles a lot which exacerbated my chronic low back pain.  Yesterday was the most intense of the practices so far lasting for 6 hours.  After the practice, I could barely move.  I wanted to just lie down and sleep for eternity.  A massage would have been heavenly!  When I woke up this morning, it took me a while to be able to get up.  All my muscles were tensed and my back was especially sore.  Cold compress, stretching and NSAIDS and I might get that massage!

I have been up til the wee hours of the morning for the past week then up early for work.  And this will go on til Sunday next week, end of Wimbledon.  The matches have been great so far and the length of the matches are just a testament to the quality of players that both ATP and WTA have.  The match between John Isner and Nicolas Mahut last night, although not shown on Philippine TV, kept me awake.  I was following it through live score updates from the Wimbledon site and through the commentaries of various tennis players I follow on twitter.  Bob Bryan and Andy Roddick in particular have very funny takes on the match.

I have been living the life of a zombie so far and have been going to work dizzy and uber sleepy.  Even my horoscope says that I should be wary of insomnia. Ha!  Here’s what it says exactly:

Wimbledon starts tomorrow!  Majority of the grand slams in the past few years have been shared by these four people.  All have been contenders for the title before save for Kim.  The Williamses have dominated this slam since the start of the decade except in 2004 when Serena lost to Sharapova and in 2006 when not one of the sisters made it to the finals.

Some trivia:

In the last 10 years (2000-2009), Venus has been in the finals 8 times and won the title 5 times (62.5%).  Serena has been in the finals 5 times and won it 3 times (60%).  Justine has been in the finals twice but unlucky both times.  Sharapova has won the title on her debut but never appeared in the finals since.

It will be an exciting two weeks of late nights once again just to catch the matches but it’ll always be worth it.  Will it still be the Williams or will a new name be carved in the Wimbledon trophy?

sleep all day

I am listening to Jason Mraz belt sleep all day on my ipod as I wait for my sister to finish preparing for work.  We’re a little late coz we woke up late.  We tried doing the insanity workout pure cardio last night and we died half way through.  This is our second life, actually.  Haha!

I dance regularly so I should be at least considered “fit.”  But a week here at my parents –  no physical activity, everything prepared for you and delicious home cooked food, I guess, caught up with me.  The warm up alone was tiring.  My sister and I barely got through it.  It was a series of jogs, jumping jacks, lunges and a lot of other stuff.  Then came the serious stuff – kicks, jumps, push-ups, lunges, shuffles, knee-high jogs.  It was impossible, at least for us to do it continuously.  We had to take looooong breaks in between,  About a third through, my sister quit.  She already wasn’t feeling good and was ready to faint.  I, on the other hand, had a stitch on my left side but continued at a much slower pace than the group of Shaun T while taking loong water breaks in between.

Gosh!  I have never had a work out that intense ever in my life!  Even if I was just doing it at half-pace and half the intensity (compared to the video), I still was drenched in my sweat after and could barely do the cool down.

I woke up this morning with quads and my core sore!  I didn’t wanna move. But I had to because I still had work.  Aaargh.  I just wanted to stay in bed the entire day!

But the workout last night was good even if it left me pacing like a snail today.  I swear I will get to Shaun T’s fitness level.  Hopefully, soon!  This year perhaps.  But I will do it again, over and over.  Insanity it may be but I’ll have crazy abs in the end!  Go insanity!
