Yes! iOS5 is coming very soon and I am really looking forward to all the improvements that Apple has announced:

And the most important thing is this:

The new iOS will still be compatible with my 3GS! How great is that?  I won’t have to buy a new phone yet.  I can still wait until they Apple finishes the real iPhone 5! =)

Apple Addict

I am addicted to both the apple fruit (I have one almost everyday) and the apple gadgets. But it’s the gadget that I am talking about here. I have an ipod, an iphone and a macbook pro.Okay, I don’t have every apple gadget in the world and I only recently started with the apple collection but still…

Aside from the 3 apple gadgets I own, my sister and I gave our parents an ipad for Christmas. Not one each, no. Just a single unit that they could both use. My dad will use it to surf the net and monitor his stocks and my mom to play games (and by games, I mean plants vs. zombies). My sister and I taught them how to use it yesterday.  They are still getting the hang of it but sooner or later, they’ll probably be addicted to it just as I am.

Anyway, so I was ‘cleaning’ my iphone – getting rid of rarely used apps. I have downloaded more than 500 iphone apps already and have really put the ‘folders’ (thanks to iOS4) to good use.  My 32 GB is close to its limit and is functioning ever so slowly each day.

I use about a maximum of 50 of the iphone apps regularly. I probably open the other 40-50 once every week. A good 150 of them I have already decided to be useless once I’d tried them. The rest, I have yet to open. So it was a BIG task trying to rid of some of the apps. I didn’t wanna mass delete applications, although that would have probably been therapeutic somehow. I wanted to check out each app, try and use it and decide whether it is worth having or not. Most of the apps are games so my decisions were mostly based on the apps’ entertainment value.

So far, I have deleted about 50 of them.  And so far, I have become addicted to 5 of those I’ve tried only today – Field Runners, Catapult Madness, Cat Physics, Slice it, and Ultimate Brain Workout. Gaaaah. My battery runs out after 10 hours of continuous play especially since I am on wifi so I can connect to Apple’s Game Center.

There’s going to be a lot of sleepless nights with all these games but at least I already got rid of a few of the useless apps and had freed some space on my iphone. =)

Iphone Restore

My mail app wasn’t working. I can download emails, see the preview of the mail but when I open it, I can only see the ‘to’, ‘cc’ and ‘subject’.  No content.  No amount of refreshing solves the problem.

I tried deleting the accounts and logging in again. I was able to download the emails and for a few days it worked. Then back to the same problem. And when I tried creating an email, I couldn’t see the cursor, couldn’t see what I was typing or if the keystrokes register at all. I tried composing the email using notepad and then sending it thru there. That was a success. I think I was also able to edit the message when I got into the mail app and successfully send it too. But that won’t do me any good. What use is a mail app if I couldn’t receive or send e-mails, right?

So I decided to restore my iphone to its original settings. Here’s how I did it:

  1. I connected the iphone to my mac via usb. I backed up and synced all the data in my iphone.
  2. After syncing, I clicked on the restore button. Everything is automatic from then on. There are just a few prompts that’ll pop out.
  3. After itunes updated the firmware, it’ll ask if you want to restore from back up or start as a new iphone.  Of course I chose restore from back up and chose my latest back up.

The restore took a long time for me, almost 2 hours because I have so many 11 pages of apps with a lot of folders.  FYI, with iOS4, apps can now be grouped in folders according to your own obsessiveness. =)  I also have a lot of songs, pics and videos, which added a few more minutes to the restore.

Thankfully, none of the previous fiascoes happened this time.  Now, I can send and receive e-mails using my mail app. Yey! =)

Globe is now promoting the iphone 4 in their website!  I also received an advisory thru SMS.  Those who are interested to be the first to hear news about availability of the iphone 4 may register on their site.  However, they haven’t committed on when the iphone 4 will be available.  Excited as I am about owning an iphone 4, I still have a lot of apprehensions, though.

There are a lot of issues that have been identified with the first release of the iphone 4 and my obsessive-compulsive self might not be able to handle them.  The most controversial issue is probably about the iphone’s antenna.  They said that holding it in a certain way results in signal loss.  Apple has taken every means to counter this by citing various statistics, which somehow, I think, only prolonged the issue.   Apple has even published in their website an explanation of how signal strength is calculated and how they have painstakingly tested each and every one of their products and ensured that they are fully functional.  Here’s a part of their explanation: (more…)

Iphone 4 won’t be available in the Philippines just yet.  But on the other side of the world, pre-ordering has already started since June 15.  In fact, there’ve been so far close to a million units ordered!

The good news is, apple is going to update the iphone OS soon!  (more…)

I did mention here on my blog, the twitter post, that I love twitbird the most among all the third party apps for twitter.  It has almost all of the things that I look for in a twitter application.

Two days ago, nibrutech, the makers of twitbird released an update.  Twitbird 2.5 is now available free for download in Itunes!  Here are the features of twitbird according to their page on the Itunes Store plus a little more info I added (in italics) based on actual use:

1.  Handle multiple twitter accounts

2.  View twitter timeline, replies and direct messages
