Happy Birthday Dr. Jose Rizal

Yesterday was the 150th birthday of the Philippines’ National Hero – Dr. Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda.  He was born June 19, 1861 in Calamba, Laguna.  Rizal was instrumental in ousting the Spaniards from the Philippines.  He is a polyglot – conversant in more than 22 languages.  Also, he is a jack of all trades – architect, artists, businessman, cartoonist, educator, economist, ethnologist, scientific farmer, historian, inventor, journalist, linguist, musician, mythologist, nationalist, naturalist, novelist, ophthalmic surgeon, poet, propagandist, psychologist, scientist, sculptor, sociologist, and theologian (www.joserizal.ph)

Rizal was shot at the Bagumbayan on December 30, 1896 by a firing squad of the Spanish army.
