Yesterday was the 150th birthday of the Philippines’ National Hero – Dr. Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda.  He was born June 19, 1861 in Calamba, Laguna.  Rizal was instrumental in ousting the Spaniards from the Philippines.  He is a polyglot – conversant in more than 22 languages.  Also, he is a jack of all trades – architect, artists, businessman, cartoonist, educator, economist, ethnologist, scientific farmer, historian, inventor, journalist, linguist, musician, mythologist, nationalist, naturalist, novelist, ophthalmic surgeon, poet, propagandist, psychologist, scientist, sculptor, sociologist, and theologian (

Rizal was shot at the Bagumbayan on December 30, 1896 by a firing squad of the Spanish army.
